The EMPTY BOWL Event
Thursday, March 24th
from 5 pm to 7:30 pm
Parish Hill High School
304 Parish Hill Rd,
Chaplin,
CT 06235-2724,
(860) 455-9584 |
| |
The “Empty Bowls” project began in Michigan in the spring of 1991. Due to the tremendous success of the project and the work of literally thousands of participants, the Empty Bowls service project now occurs throughout the year all over our country, raising millions of dollars to fight hunger.
On March 24th this year at the Parish Hill High School in Chaplin, guests will choose a handmade bowl to use that day and to keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. In exchange for the bowl of soup, and the bowl to keep, guests will contribute a suggested minimum donation of $10. One hundred percent of each meal's proceeds are devoted to local hunger-fighting organizations, such as food banks or soup kitchens, or to national or international charitable groups. For the event in Chaplin a donation of $10 is suggested and the proceeds go to the Soup Kitchen in Willimantic.
Many people have already given time to making, glazing and firing the beautiful bowls that will be available. People also donate the delicious soups you can try. Recipes for the soups are available too. Come early to be sure of a good choice among the beautiful bowls available for purchase.
A few of our Spouses Network members are among the many talented people who have made bowls already for this event. You can still help to make and glaze bowls for the event on March 24th. There is no charge for making the bowls prior to the event. As Ann says, it is a great time to learn, care, and share.

CELEBRATE the vision of PEACE
Saturday, December 4th
6.30 pm - 10 pm
at the Friends Meeting House on Huntington Lodge Road.
|
| |
Peacemaking begins in our hearts and your presence will light the lamp of peace and keep it glowing. We will join hands and hearts with music, dance and poetry as the focal point of the evening. The Lebanese Debke will be performed and then taught as will bellydancing. There will be Israeli dance instruction as well as Universal Dances of Peace. Some beautiful voices will be heard by the very talented acappella group, “Women of the Cross”, the delightful duo of “Stomping Grapes” and others. Members of the Hartford Activist Chorus will bring us all together in song. Create your own unique peace flag and an extra one for community and share in delicious desserts and beverages of the Middle East. There will also be an amazing silent auction with unique and beautiful items from the Middle East, a Middle Eastern Bazaar and so much more. This is an awareness raising and fundraising event for the Israeli/Palestinian Peace, Education and Action Group of Northeast CT. Let’s learn to sing within our soul, to one another and may we help it ripple out between nations. Suggested Donation is only $10.00, $5.00 for students. Tickets can be purchased NOW at The Willimantic Food Co-Op, Cafemantic, the Mansfield General Store or the Dunkin Donut/Service Station at Four Corners in Storrs or by contacting Marge at (860) 872-6899, margedavidpeace@yahoo.com or Joyce at (860) 429-3107. We look forward to coming together with you in hope, joy and inspiration.
Peace and Blessings - Marge Schneider, Joyce Rawitscher and the Members of the Israel/Palestine Group. |

An International Celebration of Story
Tellabration 2010 presents...
A Program of Stories for Adults
with Storyteller Catherine Conant
Friday Evening, November 5th
7:00 pm
Buchanan Auditorium, Mansfield Public Library
|
| |
Tellabration is a mammoth storytelling event - and that's no Tall Tale! It's a storytelling phenomenon, made up of dozens of storytelling happenings all over the world. Its purpose is to introduce adults, as well as children, to the pleasures of the oral art of storytelling. It is one of the programs offered by The Connecticut Storytelling Center, based at Connecticut College in New London. Dr. Gina Barreca, Professor, author, humorist says, "Catherine Conant is wildly funny, unnervingly insightful and amazingly charismatic. Her ability to tell a story - and her ability to help others tell their stories - sets her apart from other speakers. After being her company you can't help but feel a renewed sense of appreciation for your life and our world." Light refreshments will be served. There is no charge for this program and it is open to the public.
